Roxanne Jafari

Neurosomatic Bodyworker

Roxanne began her journey as a massage therapist on a quest to understand the nature of pain. How is it that two people can share the same diagnosis or report similar injuries, and yet their experiences can differ so vastly from one another?
Her inquiry began with a few simple questions:
“What is pain, why is it there, & how can I ease the suffering of others?”
Her belief was that pain was simply a physical sensation (like hot or cold), and that everyone experienced it on a spectrum ranging between barely noticeable to intolerable. This led her to seek a deep understanding of the relationship between sensation (feelings), human anatomy (form) & physiology (function).
She discovered that her initial impressions were at best, incomplete. There happen to be zero discontinuations in the human body. Not physically, not emotionally, not mentally, and not spiritually. She realized that all of the systems of the body work together, mostly under the radar of our conscious control, and are continuously coordinating and communicating via two main networks: the nervous system & our connective tissue matrix (fascia).
She came to understand that the things that seem to create the biggest impact on our health have just as much to do with how we perceive pain as to the physical sensations themselves. This is especially true in instances of chronic pain and stress-related illness.
Without having to make an effort, people will find ways to adapt to the stresses and loads placed upon them. Like a band-aid, many of these coping strategies work well in the short term, however over time they turn into compensatory holding patterns, behaviors, movement strategies, and habitual ways of dealing with overwhelm that harm more than they help. When the nervous system is dysregulated, (from inflammation, infection, suboptimal organ function, toxin overload, etc) there is a loss of executive function, and patterns of stress/anxiety/depression can appear, and vice versa. When this happens, it is highly unlikely that someone in a dysregulated state will have the space for the refined energy that they want to experience — presence, love, and ultimately joy.
It has taken Roxanne several years to refine her art of palpation so that when she touches you, she understands what she is feeling, and knows what to do to create desired changes. She deeply cares about providing each client with a service that is genuinely rooted in helping people heal themselves. That means valuing WHO they are, honoring where they have been, and creating a blueprint for where they would like to go.
